Just having a laugh.....
Dutch MP Geert Wilders calls for ban of the Qur'an in his country, i can see this happening where i live very soon as now it has become acceptable for people to dress up as Muslims and mock them as part of a street carnival.
This photo shows a group of male and female villagers in Cornwall dressing up as Muslim women in burkhas, Calling themselves the "Page Three Beauties from the Ramalama Ding-Dong Times", the 17 men and women carried placards with made-up names such as "Miss Hairyarmpitsbad", "Miss Slackistan", "Miss Notbadinbedabad" and "Miss Reallyamanistan".they were veiled with hats and sunglasses parading as part of a carnival, they are using a fake compass and pretending to pray.
Of course only a tabloid trash newspaper would give this story any coverage as its bound to stir up trouble between those who find it offensive and those who think its just a bit of harmless fun. Considering how much uproar was made of Jade Goody calling Shilpa Shetty Shilpa Poppadum you would think that many would consider this to be racist? Wrong.
Although many people thought this was offensive, others thought it was just a joke, and justified it by saying that Christians are mocked and so is Jesus. I dont think that makes it acceptable, as Muslims we should support Christians when people mock Jesus as he is a prophet of Islam. Also Britain has become more secular, but that doesnt mean they can mock Jesus and other religions, people have accepted it over the years but Christians shouldnt allow it. Muslims will be accused of not being able to take a joke, if we dont laugh this incident off, after all its just a British thing to do, take the piss out of foreigners isnt it? Back in the day they had english actors playing black people and chinese people on TV until they realised they cant do that its racist, haha, Muslims have become the easy target in the media, we cant do anything right, if we complain we are extreme and cant take a joke, why didnt they dress up as rabbis or as ghandi or guru nanak instead? I cant help feeling the reaction would have been different if they did. I havent linked to this article as i dont want to give this islamophobic newspaper any free publicity.

Hi Sanj, have you been missing my endless questioning????
Peace to u Chezza, i have missed our banter, but i guess you have been busy with the wedding, what's it like being a mother in law?
What is it like being a mother in law? Well actually at the moment it feels no different, they are still away on their honeymoon. But I don't think it will be any different when they get back, I have treated her as a daughter in law right from the start as I knew that she would be a keeper.
Maybe you should be asking the daughter in law, "What is it like having a mother in law?" We are meant to be a scary breed so I believe.
Hey not trying to be "funny or smart" but I will be starting a new treatment for my ME/CFS and it involves avoiding all sunlight on the skin. I think I may need to wear a burkha as it would make it so much easier - but I think I would really stand out in my little country town where no one even wears a hijab.
I just re-read the first bit of your post about banning the Qur'an, I guess even I would be in trouble for that, as would many non-Muslim scholars and academics. I am not sure about the logic behind banning the Qur'an, what would that achieve except make it harder for Muslims to find out the truth about their religion for themselves and therefore they would then have to rely on so called Islamic scholars who may have a vested interest in spreading the word of Islam in a false way.
If the Qur'an is banned then so must the Bible and all other religious texts. I don't think at this stage it will come to that in the UK, the UK wouldn't want to look that discrimatory in the eyes of the rest of the world - that's my opinion anyway. I would also hope that the Muslim community would have the support of non-Muslims who are for Human Rights and support their Muslim brothers and sisters. You would have my support anyway.
Hi Chezza
Hope you are well and responding to your treatment! Yes mother in laws all over the world have a bad reputation for giving the daughters a hard time, and i dont blame them, after all the son they brought up has a new woman in his life, Islamically speaking the mother has precedence over the wife as the mother bore him and weaned him and took care of him from birth!!
I think as a social experiment you should go out one day in a burkha with your face covered too and watch how people stare at you! In the UK a journalist actually did this, she was a Muslim but didnt cover her face, she did it for a day because at the time there was controversy over women wearing the veil and being fired from their jobs. Anyway she found it difficult and children and adults were frightened, paranoid and stared at her a lot!! Another English woman did it and she found it very liberating!
As for banning the Qur'an it would only make people more curious to read it, like "the satanic verses" a book by Salman Rushdie (not that im comparing the Qur'an to his book God Forbid!!), when Salman Rushdie wrote the book, Muslims (including myself) wanted to get hold of the book to see exactly what he said!! In some parts of China and Turkmenistan, Muslims have to go underground to study and read Arabic so people do find a way no matter what u do, and now we have the internet we can get the Qur'an online so no probs!!
Catch u later Chezza, need to be up in a while for the school run :)
I don't think I am courageous enough at the moment to try the whole burkha thing with just my sunglasses showing, well not in this little town. I could try it in Melbourne as I saw two women in Melbourne wearing black burkhas with just their eyes showing. If I did it in the right neighbourhood in Melbourne I might make some new friends. But knowing my luck they may not speak English or they may think I am being confrontational to their religion and not take it too well. But I realise it would be an interesting experience. I think if I start wearing a type of scarf similar to a hijab in this town I would get some stares.
There is a new advert running on Australian TV at the moment and I have to say I am very happy with it. It is a pro-Aussie type ad and its basic theme is to give people a fair go and I wish I could find it on the internet but I haven't been able to. Anyway there is a family fishing on the beach and they are pulling in quite a number of fish and just down from them is a single man who hasn't caught anything and the family is just about to go and they see that the man hasn't caught a fish and they give him some. One of the excellent parts about the ad, is that the mother of the family has dark olive skin, a beautiful smile and has a very nice plain yellow hijab wrapped around her head and neck. I thought well done, a Muslim lady has been clearly included in the ad and in a favourable light!
Also that yellow hijab looked pretty cool and I think I could wear it - very trendy :)
